Position Summary VantagePoint Alliance (VPA) is seeking experienced Power Generation Field Service Technicians to support installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and overhaul activities for reciprocating engine power plants and associated balance-of-plant equipment across industrial and distributed energy facilities.
This role supports both scheduled and emergency service activities to maximize equipment availability and reliability at customer sites nationwide. Key Responsibilities
Perform preventative maintenance and corrective service on reciprocating gas engine generator systems
Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical faults on engine-driven power generation equipment
Support commissioning, startup, and operational readiness activities
Execute engine inspections, component replacements, and system adjustments
Perform oil sampling and condition monitoring procedures
Assist with engine overhauls and major maintenance outages
Support balance-of-plant equipment including:
Cooling systems
Fuel gas systems
Lube oil systems
Exhaust systems
Auxiliary mechanical equipment
Maintain accurate service reports and technical documentation
Coordinate with site supervisors, project managers, and client representatives
Maintain tool inventory and field equipment readiness
Support apprentice technicians and junior personnel as required
Ensure compliance with all site safety and environmental procedures
Technical Qualifications
Strong hands-on experience with large reciprocating gas engines
Ability to troubleshoot:
Electrical controls
Mechanical engine systems
Auxiliary plant equipment
Experience performing scheduled maintenance and corrective repairs
Familiarity with engine diagnostics and condition monitoring practices
Ability to interpret technical drawings and service manuals
Basic computer proficiency for reporting and documentation
Preferred Equipment Experience Experience with one or more of the following platforms strongly preferred:
INNIO Jenbacher
Caterpillar
MWM
Waukesha
Cummins
MAN
MTU
Preferred Industry Experience Candidates supporting the following environments are highly desirable:
Distributed generation plants (1–25 MW typical)
CHP / cogeneration facilities
Renewable Natural Gas (RNG)
Industrial utilities infrastructure
Data center backup generation
Microgrids
Peaking plants and standby generation assets
Education & Experience
Minimum 5+ years field service experience supporting engine-driven power systems
Mechanical and/or electrical technical training preferred
Power generation industry experience strongly preferred
Engine overhaul experience a plus
Travel Requirements
Travel up to 80% nationwide
Overtime, callouts, and extended assignments may be required
Occasional international travel possible depending on project needs
Strong troubleshooting capability in field environments
Ability to work independently at remote job sites
Effective communication with customers and project teams
High attention to safety and procedural compliance
Adaptability to changing schedules and site conditions
Ability to support outage and emergency response work scopes
