Position Summary VantagePoint Alliance (VPA) is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support the design and execution of mechanical systems for power generation, distributed energy, and industrial infrastructure projects. This role contributes across the full project lifecycle—from conceptual engineering and proposal development through detailed design, installation, commissioning, and startup support.
The Mechanical Engineer will develop mechanical design packages, perform engineering calculations, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and contractual specifications. Key Responsibilities
Develop mechanical engineering design packages supporting power generation and industrial facility projects
Translate conceptual engineering requirements into detailed mechanical system designs
Support proposal and sales phases through preparation of conceptual layouts and technical documentation
Prepare and review:
Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
Equipment layouts
Mechanical system specifications
Vendor technical documentation
Perform engineering calculations including:
Pressure drop analysis
Flow calculations
Heat transfer analysis
Temperature studies
Support sizing and integration of:
Heat recovery systems
Absorption chillers
Cooling systems
Fuel gas systems
Balance-of-plant mechanical equipment
Coordinate closely with electrical, controls, and commissioning teams
Support project managers during installation, commissioning, and testing phases
Participate in HAZOP reviews and risk assessments
Interface with clients, vendors, and subcontractors
Conduct site visits, walkdowns, and field surveys as required
Ensure compliance with project safety, environmental, and quality procedures
Technical Qualifications
Experience developing mechanical designs for industrial facilities or distributed energy systems
Strong working knowledge of:
Fluid systems
Thermal systems
Heat recovery equipment
Gas handling systems
Balance-of-plant equipment
Experience preparing P&IDs and equipment specifications
Familiarity with applicable engineering codes and standards
Proficiency with:
AutoCAD (or equivalent)
Microsoft Office
Microsoft Project (preferred)
Preferred Industry Experience Experience supporting one or more of the following environments:
Reciprocating engine power plants
CHP / cogeneration facilities
Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) systems
Microgrid installations
Industrial utilities infrastructure
Energy transition projects
Balance-of-plant mechanical system integration
EPC execution environments
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required
Typically 7+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience
Experience supporting 1–25 MW distributed generation or industrial energy projects preferred
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required
Strong analytical and thermal-fluid engineering capability
Ability to translate conceptual designs into construction-ready packages
Effective coordination across multidisciplinary engineering teams
Attention to detail and documentation accuracy
Ability to manage priorities across multiple project phases
Clear written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently in fast-paced project environments
Travel Expectations Periodic travel to project sites for engineering coordination, surveys, installation support, and commissioning activities may be required.
