VantagePoint Alliance is seeking an experienced Technical Field Advisor (TFA) with deep expertise in gas and/or steam turbine systems to support field service activities during planned outages, maintenance events, and capital projects.
This role is highly hands-on and critical to ensuring accurate documentation, quality execution, and technical oversight throughout the disassembly, inspection, maintenance, and reassembly of turbine equipment. The TFA will act as a subject matter expert on-site, partnering with client teams, contractors, and OEM representatives to ensure work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with technical specifications.
Key Responsibilities
Field Execution & Technical Oversight
Provide on-site technical guidance during turbine disassembly, inspection, maintenance, and reassembly
Support outage planning and execution for gas turbines, steam turbines, and associated systems
Interpret and apply OEM manuals, engineering drawings, and technical procedures
Ensure adherence to torque specs, clearances, alignments, and critical tolerances
Documentation & Reporting
Capture detailed photographic documentation throughout each stage of work (pre, during, and post)
Develop and maintain daily field reports, work logs, and technical summaries
Document as-found and as-left conditions, including any deviations or issues identified
Assist in generating final outage reports and turnover documentation
Quality Assurance & Inspection
Verify proper installation, alignment, and assembly of turbine components
Support inspection activities including:
Rotor, blades, buckets, diaphragms, casings
Bearings, seals, and coupling systems
Identify and escalate defects, wear patterns, or failure risks
Ensure work meets OEM standards and client quality expectations
Safety & Compliance
Promote and enforce site safety protocols and best practices
Participate in job hazard analyses (JHAs) and pre-task planning
Ensure compliance with OSHA, client, and site-specific safety requirements
Collaboration & Client Interface
Act as a liaison between field crews, engineering teams, and client stakeholders
Provide real-time updates and technical recommendations
Support coordination across multiple contractors and disciplines
Qualifications
Required
5–10+ years of experience working with gas and/or steam turbines
Proven field experience in:
Turbine outages
Disassembly and reassembly
Mechanical inspections and troubleshooting
Strong understanding of turbine components, systems, and maintenance practices
Experience with OEM platforms (e.g., GE, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Solar, etc.)
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals
Willingness to travel extensively (often 75–100% during projects)
Preferred
Prior experience as a Technical Field Advisor (TFA) or Lead Field Service Engineer
Experience with combined cycle power plants or industrial facilities
Familiarity with borescopes, precision measurement tools, and alignment equipment
OSHA certifications or site-specific safety training
