VantagePoint Alliance (VPA) is seeking a highly capable Design Manager to support power generation projects, specifically focused on simple cycle gas turbine design and construction.
This role serves as the critical liaison between the Design Engineering Firm and the Construction Team, ensuring engineering deliverables are complete, coordinated, constructible, and aligned with schedule, budget, and quality objectives.
The Design Manager is embedded within the project management team and works hands-on with design engineers, field operations, subcontractors, suppliers, and owner representatives to ensure seamless integration between design intent and field execution.
Key Responsibilities
SAFETY & COMPLIANCE
Ensure strict adherence to safety policies, ethics, and regulatory compliance requirements.
Support a culture of zero incidents through proactive coordination and risk identification.
Ensure design considerations align with safety standards and site requirements.
PEOPLE & COORDINATION
Act as the primary liaison between:
Design engineering firm
Construction team
Subcontractors and suppliers
Consultants and inspectors
Owner’s representatives
Facilitate communication to ensure deliverables and timelines are achieved.
Resolve discrepancies related to:
Plans and specifications
Field constraints
Design interpretations
Ensure the construction team provides required input to the design engineer in a timely manner.
Participate in coordination meetings with contractors, clients, and engineering representatives to align design and construction efforts.
QUALITY & CONSTRUCTABILITY
Develop a comprehensive working knowledge of:
Contract documents
Design drawings and specifications
Applicable codes and standards
Conduct detailed construction document reviews for:
Constructability
Built-in Quality (BiQ)
Field practicality
Identify concerns and escalate to appropriate design professionals for resolution.
Support review of submittals and shop drawings for conformance with contract requirements.
Manage drawing and specification control to ensure the most current revisions are utilized across the project.
Support quality assurance initiatives throughout engineering and construction phases.
SCHEDULE & EXECUTION
Monitor and verify design engineer submittals are progressing per schedule.
Coordinate and support:
Look-ahead planning meetings
Submittal review meetings
Engineering coordination sessions
Ensure construction input is incorporated into design deliverables in a timely manner.
Assist with supply chain coordination for assigned scopes to ensure materials are available when required.
Support production tracking processes and field progress reporting.
Technical Focus
Familiarity with simple cycle gas turbine design and construction
Experience with power generation balance of plant systems preferred
Understanding of mechanical, electrical, and I&C interfaces within turbine installations
Ability to evaluate design impact on constructability and field execution
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (Equivalent technical training and industry experience will be considered.)
Strong understanding of:
Design processes
Construction methods and equipment
Drawings and specifications
Applicable codes and standards
Proven ability to:
Assume responsibility and drive coordination
Communicate effectively across engineering and field teams
Manage competing priorities
Experience supporting EPC or power generation projects preferred.
